THE
CARPENTERS UNION IS
PRO-DEMOCRACY
(EXCEPT
WITH IT’S OWN MEMBERS)
The
AFL-CIO Ethical Practices Code VI, declares:
“Freedom and Democracy are the essential attributes of our movement.
Labor organizations lacking these attributes…are unions in name only.
Authoritarian control…is contrary to the spirit, the traditions and the
principles, which should always guide and govern our movement.”
The United
Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America under the rule of the General
Executive Board and the General President are denying, to the membership, the
freedom and democracy they claim to hold so dear.
From The UBCJA
Constitution: Section 6-A:
“The vested rights of the members shall be preserved, and where action
as herein described is taken, the General President and General Executive Board
shall preserve the membership rights of the members of affected Local Unions,
to vote, to nominate candidates and to be nominated and run for office or
business representative. ”
Under
restructuring, the General President took away the members’ right to vote on
contract ratifications, allocations, Fund Trustees, and Business
Representative.
“Adoption
of legislation requiring, the election of all public officials by direct vote
of the people”
The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America recognize
the importance of voting in a free society. But deny those rights within the
United Brotherhood.
The
Christie Resolution will return the lost rights of the membership to the
membership. By inserting clear language in the Constitution and Laws.
